Restaurant review · Corfu

The White House.

Kalami Bay, Corfu — waterfront dining I have returned to twice, with much more to it than just the view.

Lobster at The White House in Kalami Bay

I have been to The White House in Kalami twice, which probably says more than anything else I could write. It sits right on the water in Kalami Bay, and I would book a waterside table before sunset so you get the bay in daylight, the changing light through dinner and the reflections on the water after dark.

What we ordered

The lobster was the main event on both visits. I had it with pasta on one visit and orzo risotto on the other. It was €150 per kg when I visited, so it is a special-occasion order, but it is also the dish that made me want to come back.

Lobster with orzo being served

We did not only order lobster. We also had the linguini grouper with minced shrimp and oven-roasted cherry tomatoes (€30 on the menu from my visit), plus the Greek salad (€16), made with three-coloured cherry tomatoes, carob rusks, caper leaves and Cretan soft goat cheese.

Greek salad and grilled octopus

We also ordered the grilled octopus. I wanted this included because the meal was not just lobster — there were several seafood dishes across both visits, and that variety is part of why I rate the restaurant so highly.

The desserts are worth mentioning

The Tiramisu (€18) is made with anthotyro mousse, Greek coffee ganache, sour cherry, carob crumble and sour cherry–tsipouro sorbet. It keeps the coffee-and-creamy idea of tiramisu but makes it feel much more Greek and much less predictable.

The Yogurt–Chamomile (€16) combines yogurt mousse, almond, lemongrass namelaka, chamomile gel, cucumber sauce and melon sorbet. It sounds unusual written down, but it is exactly the sort of dessert that fits this restaurant — fresh, detailed and different.

Would I go back?

Yes — and I already have. The waterside setting is beautiful, but I would not describe The White House as somewhere you visit only for the view. The food is part of the reason to book it, from the lobster and grouper pasta through to the desserts.

Prices shown are from my visits and the menu can change seasonally.
